The last two weeks I have spent in Honduras have been perhaps the best two weeks of my life. Never before have I been part of an organization where I have made such strong bonds with fellow students and staff in such a short amount of time. The life experiences, relationships and lessons I have gained through my friends, patients and GB staff are too profound for a small block of text to do justice. To everyone I have met and grown close to, I love and appreciate every single one of you for being you and for the fire within you to help more than 600 patients in one day. Believe it or not you have all impacted my life and the lives of our patients in an extremely bright light.
Compared to last year, this experience has been by far more meaningful and emotional on many different levels; especially from the moment we visited the home of one community member to the moment we all departed for home. The emotional shock of seeing good people experience such hardships yet remain so happy and loving is just incredible. While I can't say I am angry, sad or disgusted or extremely happy, I can honestly say I am very proud of everyone, for I know we have all touched the lives of hundreds of people on this trip. This experience makes me appreciate life and the people I meet even more and even further solidifies that life isn't about how long it takes to achieve a certain goal, but the journey you take to get there.
If there is one thing I am absolutely certain about, it is that Global Brigades is where I belong both as a student and physician and I cannot wait to return next year.
